Here we will talk about Bill Gates and Microsoft’s first user-friendly operating system Windows 1.0. We must admit that without Microsoft Windows 1.0, there would be no desktop computers. Microsoft’s president and board chairman, Bill Gates held an event in New Your City where he unveiled Windows 1.0 operating system on November 10, 1983. Well, Windows 1.0 was the main attraction at the event and the operating system carried a simple and intuitive graphical user interface. Well, at that time Windows 1.0’s graphical user interface was a breath of fresh air. It had something more than what the command-based MS-DOS offered like drop-down menus, tiled windows, mouse support and much more. Here’s what Bill Gates said about Windows 1.0 in 1983 “Windows provides unprecedented power to users today and a foundation for hardware and software advancements of the next few years. It is unique software designed for the serious PC user, who places the high value on the productivity that a personal computer can bring.” Well, this might look funny, but at that time, Windows 1.0 required just 256Kb of RAM, graphics adapter, hard drive or two floppy drive to run. At that time Microsoft Windows 1.0 carried a price tag of US $99. Well, this price might seem a lot. However, a personal computer was considered as a luxury that time. So, today is November 10 and 34 years ago, the 28 Year Old Bill Gates launched an operating system that eventually made him the World’s Richest Man. Now, that’s we call innovation.
